Simple Daily SEO Fix You Need to Rank at The Top

Let’s get it straight – to succeed online you have to do two things better than others:

First, you need to learn how to rank a website at the top in the search results.

Second, take care of nitty-gritty basic SEO of your website.

Why ranking in the SERP matters?

The answer is simple:

The number of people using search engines to find products and services is growing day-by-day.

According to a study, people perform 6,586,013,574 searches a day worldwide.

And the number of daily searches per Search Engine is:

Thus, your website starts getting more clicks once it ranks in the Google search.

More clicks = More Traffic = More Revenue

In fact, the first web page in search results gets over 36.4% of all clicks.

According to Pew Research Center, 91% of users search their query through search engines.

That’s why search engine optimization (SEO) is so important.

But the problem is that, you won’t be able to get the results you expect unless you fix your daily SEO.

In today’s post, I’m going share with you some basic SEO tips which will help you avoid the mistakes that prevent your website or content to rank better.

1. Your Daily Fix: The Keyword Research

No SEO strategy will be considered complete without an in depth keyword research.

Keyword research mostly should be done while building a website or improving your web presence.

But the sad part is, a lots of website owners often overlook the keyword research part or are following the old school keyword research tactics.

Most of them believe in the misconception of “Keyword + Ranking.”

The way we used to optimize our website is not effective anymore, even if you are ranking at the top.

In other words, keyword strategy used in 2005 won’t work in 2017.

Here is why:

Over a decade, keyword ranking was the number one SEO KPI. Ranking a website for your desired keyword was easy then back then.

The reason is search engines were following very simple metrics to rank a website, and it made SEO easy.

No matter, if you were in India or any other location of the world, often see the same exact search engine result pages (SERPs) when searching for a particular keyword.

Unfortunately, this is not going to work anymore.

Personalization is the new keyword strategy

Today, the search engine provides different search pages (SERPs) based on the user’s interest:

  • Past browsing history
  • Physical location
  • Geographic location, etc.

In general, the SERP results you see now are totally changed from the back days’ static result.

For Example – I searched PIZZA HUT in the search section of Google and the results provided look like this:

The truth is, the search engine is focusing more on the buying process of customers.

According to SEW, Google “near me” searches have increased by two times over the past year.

However, SEO now depends on the content, backlinks, and other factors but keyword research has still its value.

All you need to do is, find the right set of keywords which provide desired information a user wants.

Following are some keyword research tools you can use to research keywords.

1.Google Keyword Planner – It is a free keyword research tool by Google that gives the data about the number of searches that take place for a particular keyword in a month.
2.UberSuggest – It is also a free tool and gives you keyword-related phrases that people are searching for, as well as other ideas for keyword opportunities.
3.Soovle – It shows the auto suggest keywords from different sites such as Amazon, Google, and YouTube, etc.

2. Your Daily SEO Fix: Missing alt tags and broken images

Images are important for SEO but only if you use it right.

With the RIGHT I mean, use the quality image with correct ALT tags.

In a study, they found that 45% of sites have images with missing alt tags, and another 10% have broken internal images.

Both are harmful for your website ranking.

As you know search engine reads alt tags and not images.

For those who don’t know what the alt tag is?

Here is a quick definition:

The term “ALT tag” is the short form of the ALT attribute that you need to use for an image on your site. It should describe what your image is all about.

To insert alt tag, you need to add Alt=”image definition or alt text” in your image tag.

For Example: <img src=”keyword-research-tool.jpg” alt=”keyword research tool”/>

If you are a WordPress user, you don’t need to add tag manually. The option to add alt text appears as you upload the image in the WordPress.

Keep in mind the following points while optimizing images:

1.Images size should be in under 100KB
2.Image file name should be descriptive
3.Image title should have your target keywords in it

3. Your Daily SEO Fix: Title Tag

A title tag is the first element of your website a visitor encounters in the search results and decides if he should click on it or not.

Moreover, a correctly optimized title tag can improve your web ranking.

But the problem is many people don’t know how to write a proper title tag.

In fact, a study found four major issues related to title tags:

  • 35% of sites on the web are using duplicate titles.
  • 15% of sites have longer title length than it should be.
  • 8% of sites have no title tags at all.
  • While 4% of sites have title tags but they are short.

As you know Google now is more focused on providing the best possible results to the users for their query.

…and in that case, duplicate or missing title tags don’t help but decrease your website ranking.

Pro Tip – Try to write your title within 65 characters. Google truncates characters that exceed more than 65 characters.

4. Your Daily SEO Fix: Meta Descriptions

Meta descriptions appear just below on the Title tag. It gives little extra information about the web page and helps users to make a decision about the page.

Although, it does not help in ranking directly but a properly optimized Meta description can improve the CTR (click through rate) that improves ranking.

In the same study, they found that 30% of sites are using duplicate Meta description while 25% sites have no descriptions at all.

Here are some tips to write an effective Meta description.

  • Meta description shouldn’t exceed 150 – 155 words after that it will cut down in the search results
  • When writing Meta description make sure you use some actionable words that encourage people to take action like “learn,” “discover,” etc.
  • Provide the searchers a reason to click on your page by giving the solution or answer to their query
  • Don’t try to be smarter than Google by false promises in meta description
  • Make your Meta description relevant to the title or headline

5. Your Daily SEO Fix: Implement Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI)

Since 2013, SEO has brought up several updates but the one which attracts more people attention was Hummingbird update.

It was basically to provide the more accurate information to the users for their query.

And the one factor that helps Google to understand users’ intent is Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI).

When crawling a web page search engine spider looks of other closely related words and phrases as additional keywords to understand the actual purpose of that page.

In other words, LSI is the synonyms of the keywords that can improve your website ranking.

By using LSI keywords you make easy for Google to understand your page content and its motive.

Let’s say you mention “CAR” automobile in your content. Now Google might have two possible meanings of the CAR:

  • Car (Movie)
  • Car (Automobile)

To provide the better results to the users’ query Google will look for similar keywords such as an automobile, new car, car pricing, car repair, Maruti, SUV, etc.

To put it another way, Google wants you to mention Elon Musk when you are writing about “Tesla Car.”
